Florentine Waterfront Hotel Review: An Oregon Coast Cabin Getaway

There are plenty of cabin rentals in Oregon Coast towns, but every so often I come across a place that feels less like somewhere to sleep and more like part of the trip itself. The Florentine Waterfront Hotel, tucked directly on Siltcoos Lake just south of Florence, Oregon, was one of those stays.

I spent several days here while exploring Florence, the Oregon Dunes, Reedsport and Winchester Bay, and the location ended up being just about perfect.

Instead of a traditional hotel room, I had a standalone, retro-inspired cabin overlooking the lake, complete with a kitchen, private deck and enough personality that I actually wanted to spend time there.

In fact, I liked it enough that I ended up experiencing two very different cabins during my stay: the vinyl-inspired Record Room and the stylish Vanilla Villa.

There were sunsets over the lake, sandboarding adventures, wine on the deck and even an unexpectedly excellent air-fryer s’mores night. More on that shortly.

If you’re comparing Oregon Coast cabin rentals, boutique hotels or simply looking for somewhere different to stay around Florence, here’s my complete Florentine Waterfront Hotel review, including what I loved and a few things I think could be improved.

Florentine Waterfront Hotel: Boutique Cabins on Siltcoos Lake

The Florentine Waterfront Hotel sits on Siltcoos Lake in Dunes City, roughly 10 minutes south of Old Town Florence.

That’s an important distinction because this isn’t an oceanfront resort despite being minutes from the Oregon Coast. It’s a lakefront collection of individually designed cabins, and I think that’s a big part of its appeal.

The property had been sitting empty and abandoned as recently as 2024 before owners Robin Singh and Sharan Samra took it on and began transforming it into the boutique retreat it is today. That turnaround is already getting noticed: the Florentine received the 2026 Eugene, Cascades & Coast Destination Award, an award recognizing places that help visitors discover the experiences that make this part of Oregon unique.

The individual cabins are the star of the show. Rather than repeating the same room design across the property, the Florentine has leaned into distinctive themes, colours and personalities.

For travellers searching for boutique hotels on the Oregon Coast, that’s what separates this place from a conventional chain hotel.

You aren’t walking down a hallway to room 214. You’re heading back to your own little cabin by the lake.

My Florentine Waterfront Hotel Review: Staying in the Record Room

My first cabin was the Record Room and, given my slight obsession with vinyl, it couldn’t have been a better fit.

The design leans into retro 1970s style without feeling like someone simply emptied an antique store into a room. There are fun musical touches, warm colours and plenty of personality, while the big windows keep the lake as the main attraction.

The layout includes two queen beds, although one is incorporated into the main living area rather than being in a separate bedroom. The other is tucked away off the bathroom area. That makes the cabin work for up to four people, although couples will obviously have considerably more room to spread out.

There was also a comfortable seating area where I could kick back after exploring all day, and the private side deck quickly became one of my favourite spots.

Coffee + quiet lake + Oregon morning? Hard combination to beat.

The Florentine says every cabin has a view of Siltcoos Lake, but several — including the Record Room — have large windows and private decks that make much more of it.

For me, that lake access and view are a big reason to choose the Florentine over more conventional hotels along the Oregon Coast.

A Surprisingly Good Kitchen — and Air-Fryer S’mores

Another thing that differentiates these cabins is that you’re not limited to a mini-fridge and sad hotel-room coffee.

The Record Room has a kitchen with a refrigerator, microwave, two-burner stove, cookware, dishes and utensils. Most amusingly, there’s also an air fryer.

I didn’t expect an air fryer to become a memorable hotel amenity, but here we are.

I made good use of the kitchen during my stay. One night was a little Oregon Coast surf-and-turf situation with steak and tomato crab soup. Another involved raiding Trader Joe’s for pasta, smoked olives and other supplies before settling in for the evening.

And then there were the s’mores.

The property has actual lakeside fire pits where normal people can roast marshmallows under the stars. I had every opportunity to do exactly that.

Instead, after wine with the sunset, the cabin was simply too comfortable to leave. So I made s’mores in the air fryer, curled up on the couch and watched a movie.

Was this the most bougie millennial interpretation of camping-adjacent Oregon Coast life imaginable? Probably.

Am I mad about it? Absolutely not.

It’s also why having a real kitchen matters. If you’re staying for several nights, travelling with kids or simply don’t want to eat every meal at a restaurant, having the option to cook makes these cabin rentals on the Oregon Coast considerably more practical.

Staying in the Vanilla Villa

I also had the chance to spend time in the Vanilla Villa, which gave me a completely different perspective on the property.

The detached Vanilla Villa

Where the Record Room is playful and retro, Vanilla Villa feels brighter and more contemporary. There are tasteful accent pieces, comfortable corner seating and a little electric fireplace that adds some coziness when the coastal weather rolls in.

But once again, the view steals the show.

The hotel describes Vanilla Villa as having the best lake view on the property, thanks largely to its floor-to-ceiling windows, and I can understand the claim. The light coming across Siltcoos Lake in the evening was beautiful.

Both cabins were comfortable, but I appreciated that they didn’t feel interchangeable. That’s the whole point of a good boutique hotel.

If you’re travelling as a couple, I’d look closely at the different designs and choose based on the atmosphere you want rather than simply booking whichever cabin appears first.

Oregon Coast Boutique Hotels With Amenities You’ll Actually Use

One of my favourite things about the Florentine Waterfront Hotel is that the experience extends beyond the cabins.

Sunset swing at the Florentine Waterfront Hotel

There’s free guest parking, direct access to Siltcoos Lake and a private fishing dock. One morning I watched guests fishing from the dock while I was enjoying the morning sun.

You can also rent kayaks, fishing equipment, sandboards and sand sleds directly from the hotel.

I took advantage of the sandboards and headed to nearby Jessie M. Honeyman Memorial State Park to try my luck on the Oregon Dunes.

“Luck” may be generous.

Figuring out the correct amount of wax took some experimentation, and I came back with sandburned knuckles to prove I had given it a proper go. Still, being able to pick up the boards directly from the hotel made it ridiculously easy.

The Oregon Dunes are only a few minutes from the property, so this is one amenity I’d genuinely recommend using rather than simply mentioning because it appears on the hotel’s facilities list.

Back at the Florentine, there are lakeside fire pits, barbecues, grassy areas, outdoor games and some very cute swings positioned to take advantage of the lake views.

Sunset is particularly good.

Is Florentine One of the Best Boutique Hotels on the Oregon Coast?

Calling any property one of the best boutique hotels on the Oregon Coast depends heavily on what you’re looking for.

The Florentine isn’t a polished, full-service luxury resort with a spa, concierge and restaurant downstairs. That’s not why I’d stay here.

What it does particularly well is combine the privacy and space of an Oregon Coast cabin with the personality of a boutique hotel.

The standalone cabins have no shared walls, most accommodate between two and four guests, kitchens make longer stays practical and the lake gives you something to enjoy when you’re not out exploring.

It feels more like a retreat than a hotel.

That’s especially appealing on the Oregon Coast, where the accommodation can sometimes fall into one of two camps: large conventional hotels or rustic vacation rentals. Florentine lands somewhere in between.

You get the individuality and independence of a cabin without having to give up hotel-style conveniences.

A Great Base for Exploring Florence, Reedsport and the Oregon Dunes

Location turned out to be another highlight of my stay.

Florentine Waterfront Hotel is about 10 minutes south of Old Town Florence, while Honeyman State Park and the Oregon Dunes are just a few minutes away. Siltcoos Beach is also roughly an eight-minute drive from the property.

Initially, I thought I would spend most of this trip around Florence. Instead, I kept heading south.

 Oregon Coast sand and waves
Minutes from the Oregon Coast sand and waves

Reedsport and Winchester Bay ended up providing some of my favourite stops of the trip, from a surprisingly great little food-and-drink scene in Reedsport to nearly empty stretches of beach around Winchester Bay.

That made the Florentine’s location particularly useful. I wasn’t committed to staying right in downtown Florence, and I had easy access to Highway 101 for exploring in either direction.

I’ve put all of those stops — including where I ate, drank, sandboarded and explored — into my guide to what to do in Florence, Oregon, including why I think it’s worth venturing south toward Reedsport instead of spending your entire trip in Florence.

If you’re planning a longer road trip, my Oregon road trip itinerary is another good starting point for putting this stretch of coast into a bigger Oregon adventure.

A Few Things That Could Be Improved

No Florentine Waterfront Hotel review would be particularly useful if I only talked about what photographed well. Overall, my stay was extremely positive, but there are a few details worth mentioning.

Some of the finishing work in my cabin could use attention. A few electrical outlets weren’t completely secure against the wall, for example, and would move when unplugging something.

The exterior decks could also benefit from a good power wash, and I noticed some cobwebs and the usual dirt that accumulates around a wooded waterfront property.

None of these things negatively affected my stay, and we’re talking about older structures in a damp lakeside environment rather than a brand-new hotel tower. Keeping exterior spaces pristine in this setting can’t be easy.

Still, they’re details some travellers will notice, so they’re worth pointing out. I’d describe the Florentine as charming, comfortable and thoughtfully renovated rather than flawless.

For me, the personality, setting, cabin layouts and lake views easily outweighed those relatively minor maintenance issues.

Who Is the Florentine Waterfront Hotel Best For?

I’d particularly recommend the Florentine to couples looking for a quiet Oregon Coast escape, road-trippers who want a base for exploring Florence and Reedsport, families who will appreciate having a kitchen, and travellers who prefer independent boutique properties over chain hotels.

It also makes sense for anyone comparing Oregon Coast cabin rentals but who doesn’t necessarily want the isolation — or chores — that can come with renting a private vacation home.

Being able to wake up by the lake, make breakfast, grab a sandboard from reception, spend the afternoon exploring the dunes and come back for wine at sunset was pretty much exactly what I wanted from this trip.

Pet owners also have several options. Most Florentine cabins are pet-friendly, although the Lavender Loft is an exception, so check the specific room details when booking.

How to Get to the Florentine Waterfront Hotel

If you’re flying in for an Oregon Coast road trip, Portland is one possible starting point. You can compare flights to Portland here and then check rental-car rates in Portland.

A car is definitely the way I’d want to experience this part of Oregon. Much of the appeal comes from being able to stop at beaches, dunes, viewpoints and small towns whenever something catches your eye.

Florentine Waterfront Hotel Rates and Booking

Because every cabin has its own layout and personality, I recommend looking through the individual rooms before booking rather than choosing solely by price.

The Record Room would be my pick for music lovers and anyone who appreciates the retro aesthetic. Vanilla Villa is worth considering if maximizing your lake view is the priority.

Larger groups can look at Funky Fortress, which sleeps up to eight, while couples have several smaller options depending on the style and amenities they’re after.

Florentine Waterfront Hotel Review: Is It Worth It?

For me, yes. The Florentine Waterfront Hotel delivered something I value more and more when travelling: a place I actually looked forward to coming back to at the end of the day.

I could have stayed in a standard Oregon Coast hotel, spent all day sightseeing and treated my room as somewhere to sleep. Instead, some of my favourite moments happened right at the Florentine.

Morning coffee overlooking Siltcoos Lake. Wine as the sun went down. Cooking dinner rather than rushing back out to find a restaurant. Watching people fish from the dock. Grabbing sandboards and heading to the dunes. And, yes, eating air-fryer s’mores on the couch because leaving the cabin suddenly seemed like far too much effort.

Those little experiences are what make the Florentine stand out among boutique hotels on the Oregon Coast. There are a few finishing details I’d like to see tightened up, but nothing I encountered would stop me from staying again.

If your search for cabin rentals in Oregon Coast towns is really a search for somewhere with more personality than the average hotel — and somewhere that puts you between Florence, the dunes, Reedsport and miles of Oregon coastline — the Florentine is well worth considering.
